Email Setup - Outlook (2003)
The steps for setting up email on Outlook are pretty simple.  You can be up and running in a few short minutes.  Please read the article about POP3 vs IMAP located here .  We support both methods, so you will need to choose during the setup process.

Step 1
From the "Tools" menu, select "Email Accounts"

Step 2
A. Click "Add a new email account"
B. then click the "Next >" Button

A. Click POP3 (or IMAP) for the type of email
B. then click the "Next >" Button

Step 4
Enter your information into the available boxes.

A. User Information
  • Your name:  Enter your actual name
  • Email Address:  Enter your new (or existing) email address.  This need to end in the domain name (ie. - yourdomain.com)
B. Server Information
  • Incoming mail server (POP3):  pop.1and1.com  (or for IMAP, use imap.1and1.com)
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP):  smtp.1and1.com
C. Logon Information
  • Username:  Enter your email address here
  • Password:  This will be either a password that has been assigned to you, or a password you've chosen.
  • Remember Password box should be checked.
D. BEFORE HITTING NEXT:  CLICK "More Settings"

If you got ahead of yourself and accidentally hit "Next >", select "< Back" to return.

Step 5
Under "More Settings", General Tab, enter the following:

A. Mail Account: 
  • You can place anything in this location - I use multiple email addresses, so I usually enter my email address here.  You can enter anything you want.  This will show up in the list of email addresses.
B. Other User Information:
  • Organization:  Enter your company name (optional)
  • Reply E-mail:   Enter your email address (optional)

Step 6
Outgoing Server Tab (still under "More Settings"), enter the following:

A. "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" box should be checked.
B. "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" should be selected.

The other two tabs do not need to be altered.

Click the "Test Account Settings" button (optional)

Click "Next >"

Click "Finish"

You're done!  Nice job - now you can begin receiving email in Outlook.
