We are able to offer turn key packages for our web customers who want one stop shopping for website development, hosting, and maintenance. We know the majority of people shopping for websites are not necessarily familiar with the specialized terminology associated with website hosting. We serve to decipher this information into terms the average person can understand. Leave the development and hosting of your website to us - spend your time concentrating on your business!

With our hosting packages, we offer email hosting.  We know everyone has a heavy reliance on email today, so we are proud to offer 2 Gb of mailbox space for your email address.  We work with popular email clients like Microsoft Outlook or provide webmail access via our own server email application, or via Gmail.  We can even come to your location to setup your email client on your desktop computer, laptop, PDA, Smartphone, and other devices if needed (our step by step instructions make this easy enough for anyone though!)

1 and 1 Webmail
Email
Accessing e-mail via 1and1 webmail

Our dedicated server resides at 1and1.com.  1and1 has their own webmail portal that can be used to access your email from any web browser.  The only problem is that the portal is a little on the slow side.  We recommend using either Google's Mail system (gmail) or Yahoo's Mail system for easy access and a better interface.  Google and Yahoo mail are both free and offer large amounts of storage.  Another client option is to use Microsoft Outlook or any other number of clients available.  See other options listed in the menu for more details.

To access your mail via webmail, follow these steps.

Go to the URL http://webmail.1and1.com

At the first screen, enter your email address and your password.

After you enter the correct email address and password combination, you will see the following screen.

This is the main screen for the 1and1 webmail.  From this screen you can check and send messages, add folders (useful when using IMAP) or change your account settings (password, etc.)

POP3 vs IMAP
Email

POP

With POP, your mail client (app, program) checks to see if there is any new mail since the last time you checked and downloads any new ones. You can choose to allow for the mail to remain on the server, or get pulled down completely to your mail client. In the latter case it is deleted from the server once it has been downloaded to the mail client.

If you leave mail on the server, the most you can do is to tell the server to delete any mail that you have deleted on your client, or to delete mail older than x number of days. All the flags of whether you have seen the email, replied to the email, forwarded the email cannot be replicated (notice for instance how the mail envelope icon changes on Outlook depending on what you have done to the mail).

This is fine if you download, read and store all your email in one place, e.g. your mail client like Outlook, where the flags are preserved, or if you really don't care about the flags like in GMail.

If you check your email in multiple places using different clients, e.g. one at work, one at home, webmail when you are on holiday, then this is where IMAP comes in...

IMAP

A more sophisticated protocol, what it does is mirror the mail server. Your mail client not only checks to see if there is new mail from the last time you checked, but also update any flag (e.g. read mail, mail forwarded, mail deleted etc) changes since the last time.

IMAP is more flexible in allowing either the header only to be downloaded, or a set size (in kilobytes) to be downloaded (I know that some POP clients do this too, but it's really a non-standard POP feature).

If you organize your mail on your mail server - i.e. file everything on it in different folders, you can even synchronize the various folders. You can tell your client which folders you want sync'd and which not to. And when you have new mail in that folder it won't be dragged to the inbox like POP does.

This is the best protocol to use if you retrieve your messages from multiple locations (office, home, smartphone, etc).

Web Hosting
Web Hosting

As a convenience to our web development customers, we offer managed web hosting packages.  Our dedicated servers are located in 1&1's professionally staffed, state of the art data center in Lexena, KS .   Backup generators, multiple hard drives, dual routers, cooling systems and gel battery power banks give us real redundancy so our high-end servers will continue to operate regardless of external conditions. In the event the grid is down, five huge 16-cylinder diesel generators supply constant, reliable power for all systems.  With a Cebsource annual hosting plan, we include all the bandwidth you'd ever use, the availability of email hosting, and a multitude of other features.  We provide a solution with all the features you need in an easy to understand, reliable package.  Speaking of reliable, over the past three years, we have not experienced any extended service outages!  To assure this type of exemplary performance, we are in constant contact with our tech team to assure acceptable site speed is maintained and any potential problems are proactively resolved.

Our hosting pricing is determined based on the complexity of our customer's sites, the amount of storage space they require, how many email addresses they may require and other factors. All of our hosting plans also include maintenance fees based on the level of ongoing involvement required by our staff for our customers.  See more under Maintenance.

FTP Sites
Web Hosting

FTP - short for File Transfer Protocol - is a type of site normally setup for companies and individuals sharing a large number of files or large size files.  Often, people will resort to attaching these files to emails.  They quickly find out the limitations of their email accounts or corporately mandated email box size limitations.  With your own FTP site, you are able to upload and download files without regard for email limitations.  Some uses for FTP sites include sharing large drawing files, high resolution photo and graphics files and more.

Another use for these accounts is to host pictures for display in discussion forums.  There are severe limitations within discussion forums for attaching photos within the forum framework - off-site hosting (via an FTP account) is the best way to control your images that are displayed.  Our FTP sites are purely an online file cabinet for your files - no pop-up ads or other annoyances to get in the way of your experience.

Domains vs Subdomains
Web Hosting

Depending on your requirements, you might be able to save some cost on your hosting or FTP account by utilizing a subdomain.  The difference between a standard domain and a subdomain on a Cebsource hosting account include:
  • Domains use either dedicated IP addresses or shared IP addresses, Subdomains only use shared IP addresses
  • Domains can use an encrypted SSL license for eCommerce solutions, Subdomains cannot
  • Domains have an annual registration fee, Subdomains do not (we cover the main domain fees)
What does this all mean?  Quite simply, a domain's syntax is http://www.domain.com, where as a subdomain's syntax is http://subdomain.domain.com.  With a subdomain, you only get to choose the first part of the address (the subdomain part).  With a standard domain, you choose the primary domain name, however you also get the recurrring fees and hosting fees.  If you are not hung up on what your web address reads, you can save some cost by using a subdomain account.

Maintaining your site
Site Maintenance

As is true with most things with many working parts, your website is no different - a maintenance contract for your website is good insurance that it will be up to date with software upgrades and secure.  We offer various levels of maintenance contracts based on how much ongoing service our staff will need to provide.  It could be as simple as adding some links or a few photos to your site to more complex tasks like implementing a monthly newsletter, rotating content, or managing an online calendar.

With our intimate knowledge of your site, you can be assured that we would be best suited to maintain your site in the most efficient manner possible.

Search Engine Submission
Advertising and Promotion

Now that you've got a new website, you need to get the word out!  Let us handle submitting your site to all the major search engines.  This requires generating sitemap files and submitting them to the search engines as well as placing some files on the server where your site resides.

Google Adwords
Advertising and Promotion

Reach new customers with Google. No matter what your budget, you can display your ads on Google and their advertising network. We can help you implement an advertising package by focusing on key words and phrases and preparing a sound advertising strategy and budget.  The great part about this program is that you only pay if people click your ads.  This is how you get your listing "above the line" and in the sidebar of their search engine results.

Google Adsense
Advertising and Promotion
Want a way to offset some of your hosting costs?  Google Adsense might be the answer for you.  Google Adsense is a program by Google where they hold auctions where advertisers bid to have their advertisement and link on your website.   You are paid a fee every time someone clicks the advertisement on your site - albeit a small fee - generally pennies, but this adds up over time and sometimes (depending on the content of your site), the fee per click is surprisingly high.

These ads are either static text or image ads and are not pop-ups or anything too annoying.  You can exclude companies who participate in on your site - like your competitors.  The text ads can even be tailored to be the same colors as you website so they blend in with your site and look as though they belong there.

Google Analytics
Reporting and Statistics

The best tool we've found for analyzing your site is Google Analytics.  This powerful tool gathers more information than any tool we've come across.  What's more, it's free to use!  Learn answers to questions like the following:
  • When are people viewing my site the most?
  • Where are people located who are viewing my site?
  • How are people finding my site?
  • What pages are being viewed the most?
And much much more!  Google Analytics helps you discover where you can make changes and improvements to your site to assure your visitors stay on your site once you get them there.
